What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to remember your preferences, and to provide information to website owners about how their site is used.
Cookies set by the website you are visiting are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by other services — such as Google Analytics — are called third-party cookies. You can read more about cookies at ico.org.uk.
How We Use Cookies
We use three types of cookies on UKStampDuty.co.uk:
- Strictly necessary cookies — essential for the site to function. These cannot be disabled.
- Analytics cookies — help us understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. Provided by Google Analytics 4. Only set with your consent.
- Advertising cookies — used to show relevant adverts. Provided by Google AdSense. Only set with your consent.
Under UK PECR and UK GDPR, we only place analytics and advertising cookies after you have given explicit consent through our cookie banner.
Cookies We Use
sd_cookie_consent (UKStampDuty.co.uk) — Stores your cookie preference (accepted or declined). Expires after 1 year. Strictly necessary.
_ga, _ga_XXXXXXXXXX, _gid, _gat (Google Analytics) — Used to measure how visitors use the site. Expiry ranges from 1 minute to 2 years. Analytics. Only set if you accept.
IDE, test_cookie (Google DoubleClick) — Used to measure ad effectiveness and show relevant ads. Expires after 1 year or at end of session. Advertising. Only set if you accept.
This list reflects cookies currently known to us. We will update it if new cookies are introduced.
Your Consent
When you first visit the site, a banner appears at the bottom of the screen giving you two choices: Accept All (enables analytics and advertising cookies) or Decline (only strictly necessary cookies are used).
Your choice is saved in the sd_cookie_consent cookie for 1 year. After that, or if you clear your browser cookies, the banner will reappear.
You can reset your preference at any time using the button below — it will clear your saved choice and show the banner again.
How to Manage Cookies
The simplest way is to use our cookie banner when you visit. To change a previous choice, use the reset button above.
You can also manage cookies through your browser settings. All modern browsers let you block or delete cookies — look in Privacy or Security settings. Note that blocking all cookies may affect how this and other websites work.
To opt out of Google Analytics across all sites, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
To manage Google ad personalisation, visit adssettings.google.com.
To opt out of interest-based advertising from multiple ad networks, visit youronlinechoices.com.
Third-Party Cookies
Some cookies on this site are set by Google Analytics and Google AdSense. These services have their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review:
We do not allow third-party cookies to be set unless you have accepted via our cookie banner.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows the most recent revision. If we introduce new types of cookies, we will re-display the consent banner.
This policy was last updated on 8 March 2026.
